LEADERSHIP

PURPOSE

This Unit Standard will be useful to learners who are working within the Public Sector, Local Government, commercial, or community environment. It will enable learners to gain insight into the role of leadership within a work context, and thus providing them with the skills and knowledge to add value to one's job. This Unit Standard will also provide value to public officials who are involved in integrated development planning or public sector management and administration specialists.

EXIT LEVEL OUTCOMES

  • Explaining the concept of leadership.
  • Differentiating between leadership and management.
  • Analysing and comparing leadership theories.
  • Applying the different roles and qualities of leadership in a work context.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

It is assumed that the learner has the following knowledge and skills:

  • Communication at NQF Level 4.

MODULES

The modules included in the qualification are as the following:

  1. Module 1: Concept of leadership.
  2. Module 2: Leadership VS Management.
  3. Module 3: Leadership theories.
  4. Module 4: Different roles and qualities of leadership in a work context.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Specific careers may include the following:

  • General Manager
  • Business Consultant
  • Project Manager
  • Department Supervisor

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA

  • 30% of your final mark comes from your Formative and Summative Assessments.
  • 70% of your final mark comes from the FISA.
  • You need at least 75% overall to pass.
